    Product Description
Schumacher's SEM-1562A low amperage charger is an ideal way to maintain a battery's charge for people who don't use their vehicle everyday, who go short distances, or who do lots of stop-and-go driving. It can also be used to charge small batteries for ATVs, motorcycles, snowmobiles, and lawn tractors, or even for batteries that have a long storage time. In cold climates, they're indispensable for keeping batteries warm overnight and ready for starting.

The SEM-1562A charges both 6-volt and 12-volt batteries.

    FEATURES
The SEM-1562A maintains both 6-volt and 12-volt batteries, keeping them at full charge using float-mode monitoring. The unit will automatically switch from full-charge to float-mode monitoring when the battery is charged to prevent overcharging. Smart display LEDs indicate whether the unit is in charge, charging, or trouble modes.

    Versatile
The SEM-1562A is perfect for charging small batteries, maintaining small and large batteries kept in storage, and batteries for motorcycles, classic cars, TVs, and boats. It's small enough to fit under the hood of your car or truck.

    Safe and Effective
The unit has a quick disconnect harness for easy removal. Use the 50 amp clamps to connect to the battery or permanently attach the ring connectors--great for hard to reach motorcycle batteries. It also has a reverse hookup protection in case the clamps are accidentally connected to the wrong terminals.

    Warranty
Every Schumacher power source comes with a one-year limited warranty (90 days on battery).

Owner Reviews, Ratings, Comments and Criticism
After having the battery on my "summer only" convertible go flat last winter I decided to invest in a battery maintainer. The Schumacher SEM-1652A was the best compromise of price (around $40 with shipping), features (a normal charging rate, and a lower maintaining rate, with overcharge protection and indicator lights), and small size (fits easily under the hood by the master cylinder, battery wiring adaptor with quick connect makes installation and removal a snap. The changes I would make to it are few. I'd add a few extra crimp-on terminals of various ring sizes to the kit, so different power connections with the wiring adaptor could be made (my car has the battery mounted in the front fender well, I had to get larger ring terminals to go on the remote jump starting terminals under the hood. The second is a matter of economy. Once the battery has reached 12.5 volts, there's no real reason to run the charger/maintainer 24 hours a day. I hooked mine to a timer and have it turn on for 3 to 4 hours every night (when the electric rates are cheapest) to keep it charged up. While it's true the circuitry in the charger will eventually drain the battery if the unit is left connected when the unit is not powered, the actual current flow is only a few milliamps per hour, and charging 4 out of 24 hours has kept the battery at 12.5 volts for the last two months. With this in mind I'd add a programmable timer circuit to the unit.
