Cyclonic action separates the heavy dust particles from the fine particles and drops them into the 35-gallon steel drum. The fine dust travels past the 14-1/2" diameter impeller and is then trapped by a cartridge filter made of spun-bond polyester that filters 99.9% of particles from 0.2 to 2 microns in size. The cartridge filter is pleated to provide 86 square feet of surface area for efficient air movement and a clear plastic bag collects the fine cake that shakes off the filter for consistent dust collector performance. Casters mounted to the drum also make disposal of the larger chips and dust as easy as it gets. Other features include: a vertical motor support for reduced vibration, thick walled 11 gauge steel blower housing, 16 gauge steel cyclone body, 360 degree blower rotation for easy connection to a duct system, TEFC Class "F" motor and a magnetic switch. The optional steel legs and support frame (H7499) also make setup quick and easy.
Owner Reviews, Ratings, Comments and Criticism
In the 11 months I've owned this piece of equipment, I've had a good news, bad news relationship with it. Good: Ordering and shipping went without problems. Bad: Set-up was fraught with little irritations: Incorrect number of fasteners; bolts with SAE thread but metric heads; holes for mounting hasps for collection barrel needed to be redrilled to work correctly; etc. Good: Machine and system initially performed at or above expectations. Bad: Numerous leaks of fine dust soon apparent. Filter cleaning system all but unusable. Good: Grizzly sent upgrade system for filter cleaner without being asked. Bad: New system works only slightly better. Worst: Starter winding failed in a cloud of smoke after two months. Good: Prompt resolution of warranty claim for defective motor with replacement motor. Bad: Machine developed bad vibration after 11 months. The cause was an almost catastrophic fracture in the impeller plate. Good: Again, prompt resolution of warranty claim for defective part with a replacement part. Follow-up to above original review: Bad: After installing new impeller, it was found that the unbalanced old impeller had damaged the motor bearings. Good: Grizzly replaced the motor even though it had just gone out of warranty. Bad: After only three weeks of use, the bearings in the new motor were already starting to make noise. Upon unbolting the motor to take it to my motor service, I found cracks in three of the four cast iron "buttresses" on the motor mount flange. Grizzly offered another replacement motor, the fourth one, which I declined. Worst: This machine has been taken out of service and scrapped after 14 months of service time. I am replacing it with another brand. Summary: Good: The machine and system perform as well or better than expected when it runs. All contacts with Grizzly ordering, tech support and customer service have been excellent. Bad: There were numerous irritating problems with set-up. There are small dust leaks in the machine and problems with the filter cleaning mechanism even after upgrade. I've had two major warranty claims with this machine and three motor failures in 14 months. Opinion: Grizzly has a well-performing machine, when it runs, that appears have design and engineering flaws, especially in the motor and impeller.
