At present, Amazon image is of 411D not 416D. You'll notice a lot of similarities between the Fluke 416D and the Leica Disto D2 (same dimensions, same display, very similar product manual). This is because Fluke and Leica GeoSystems are both owned by Danaher. So what's the basic difference between the two? Fluke has separated out the functions into separate buttons (area, volume, height). With the Leica D2, you cycle through the functions by repeatedly pressing a single button. Both models show the selected mode on the display. The primary shortcoming of the Fluke is that it lacks the stake out function which is a convenience mode that helps you position studs, and otherwise evenly space items. If you don't need this, you'll save $10-35 by buying the Fluke (see testequipmentdepot.com website). However, in addition to the stake out function, the Leica has a timer which the Fluke 416D also lacks. While this seems minor these type of devices can be a chore to hold the device steady enough to take a reading at distance unless you have very steady hands. Lacking a built-in tripod mount, the timer is a nice to have feature for this reason. Given that at the list prices are nearly identical, because of the two extra features of the Leica, I've given the Fluke 4 out of 5 stars. If you are considering buying the less expensive Bosch DLR165K and you are disappointed that there is no units mode for the display of inches, get the D2 or the Fluke that both have it. If your profession/hobby deals with 68" instead of 5'8" why buy an electronic device that requires you to calculate feet w/ inches in your head? Bosch recently introduced the DLR130K which has fewer features than the previous model but finally adds an inches mode for carpenters. FYI. More expensive Leica models (like the D3, D5) add tilt, angle computation, 1/32" accuracy, tripod mount, more units (even cu.yd. at the high end). Their product line is quite diverse.
